Electrifying Energy in Horror Films

Spooky season has officially arrived - Happy Halloween to all our Jellyfish customers and partners.
As today is Halloween, it got us thinking in the office about all our favourite horror films that inspire a world of terror and characters to dress up as. It also got us wondering about how energy is used in films to spook and frighten audiences.
In the world of sci-fi and horror, electricity can be a terrifying thing.
Let's take a look at some classic horror films and how they link to energy!
Pulse (1988)
Directed by Paul Golding, Pulse focuses on a family who is haunted by a paranormal being living within their neighbourhood's electrical grid system. The electricity takes control of the house's appliances, including causing fires from the hobs and producing scorching shower water temperatures, causing terror to strike.
This unreliable electricity is the complete opposite to the energy that Jellyfish has to offer. We ensure that we supply transparent energy, that you can always trust! We are constantly analysing the market to ensure our services are competitively priced and have a reliable customer service team that is readily available to answer any questions you may have.
Poltergeist (1982)
Similar to Pulse, the classic horror film, Poltergeist instils fear into audiences by creating disturbances in a house. These disturbances are caused by a supernatural entity that communicates through using the energy in the house. The lights flicker and the TV turns itself on to have a looming static presence.
Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
As Spider-Man is such an iconic costume for Halloween, it is only right to mention the striking villain, Electro, from the Spider-Man franchise. Once an innocent electrical engineer for Oscorp Industries, Maxwell Dillon is turned into an electrifying villain when he falls into a vat of electrical eels, when staying back late to fix a loose electrical cable. His passion for electricity betrays him as his body turns fully electric, destroying his human form and making him an enemy of Spider-Man, who he once admired. Electro thrives when he can feed on electricity and uses this to destroy New York and eventually destroy Spider-Man.
Electro was also a part of the iconic return of the main villains, and all the Spider-Man's in No Way Home (2021). In this more modern world, Electro feels more powerful from electricity. No Way Home surprised Marvels fans by uniting Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in one film. This iconic moment is nearly as iconic as the electricity products that Jellyfish has to offer - we have multiple products to choose from, including, renewable, ratings-based, specialist usage, and non-credit checked products. To represent just how legendary our products are, I hope a few of us here at Jellyfish plan to dress us as Electro tonight!
Lights Out (2016)
Lights Out centres on a young woman whose mother is possessed by a supernatural spirit. This spirit only hunts in darkness. Energy is used to create a sense of terror through special effects of flickering lights and blackouts. In a bid to keep safe, the characters try to keep their lights, and thus power on, to remain safe. Therefore, using electricity is crucial to remaining safe.
This translates to everyday life - energy is so important for all of us, we use and rely on it everyday. This is why it is important to have a reliable energy supplier. Here at Jellyfish, we pride ourselves on being a fair and transparent energy provider that you can trust.
The Purge (2013)
The Purge focuses on a wealthy family who are in favour of American having one day to purge, causing chaos across the nation as rates in crime massively increase. Protected in their suburban home, the Sandin's are able to feel safe during the purge as they have expert security systems, meaning energy plays a vital role in protecting people in their homes during the purge. The wealthy can afford surveillance cameras, fortified gates and alarm systems. This stark difference to the poorer neighbourhoods, which are dark, unlit, and unprotected, marks a power dynamic and also highlights the importance of energy in a crisis.
In our daily lives, we rely on energy for basic survival, without it, we would be lost. This reinforces how important energy is - it is something we all need to light up and heat our homes over the coming winter months. Why not take a look at the products we have on offer by visiting our Products page on the website.
The Purge has also inspired many costumes throughout the years of wearing the creepy masks that the intruders wear. So get yourself a mask this year and choose which product you would like when you onboard with us!
